After this one nightmare of a peer-reviewed article finally came out Open Access on the one ancient language that I've now been studying for some years and have turned myself into quite an expert in, I printed off a copy to send to my parents.
"It's impressive," my mom was like, telling me that it had come in the mail the previous day.
"You have no idea how much time went into it," I was like. "It's so hyper-detailed."
"I can imagine," she was like, and then she began talking about how involved it was, and bit by bit it became clear that most of her observations had to do with the formatting, like all the indentation in the bibliography and stuff like that.
"I actually didn't do that," I was like, explaining to her that that kind of stuff is typically done by the journal's editorial team, after I had submitted the underlying text in the required formatting.
"But still," she was like, "It's impressive."
