Memories of the Puerto Rican Festival.

1) Trash barrels overbrimming with styrofoam containers full of half-eaten pieces of pork and piles of rice and beans.

2) Everyone in red, white, and blue - and a lot of women in a red, white, or blue bra, with a red, white, or blue mesh shirt over the top of it.

3) Ordering plantains halved and then roasted with a piece of cheese in them.

4) Walking past a sidewalk cafe and a Puerto Rican woman calling me over to give me props for my "KISS ME, I'M PUERTO RICAN" t-shirt (with lips overlaid in the style of the Puerto Rican flag).

5) This short fat woman striding down the street in a "I'M A CRAZY PUERTO RICAN!" t-shirt.

6) Tons of police presence at parade time, but by 5pm very few police, and young guys hanging around in groups.

7) A U.S. Army enlistment entertainment booth where people were challenged to do pushups, and giving away free Army bags.

8) A booth with local Telemundo hosts signing autographs.

9) Kind of fat people walking around holding giant carved-out pineapples with pina coladas in them.
