An odd experience.

A few months ago at the one (Thai) restaurant where I work now, I seated this one (late 20s/early 30s) (Latino) couple at a table by the window, and the guy looks vaguely familiar, and it takes me a minute to remember that I met him at a party several years ago that was put on by the one (gay) (Brazilian) (STEM) guy who I know from around town.

And so, I reintroduce myself at the table, being all like, "Hey, didn't I meet you...?", only for the guy to be like, no, that was my twin brother who was here.

And, something seemed a little off about him, like he wasn't quite the same person, so for some reason I just ran with that right away instead of thinking it was a joke or something, and so I was like, "Really?!".

And, as it turns out, they are indeed twins, and they studied the same thing, and they even studied abroad and worked in the same lab, one serving several years ago when I met him, and the other, now, who was now speaking to me.

"It is a nightmare with social security numbers," he was like, saying that the (American) social security office just assumed that he was the same person when he applied for a number, since they had the same birthday, the same last name, and even the same employer.

"On Reddit people say that happens a lot to twins," he was like.

At one point, too, I asked him if had ever considered seeing a psychiatrist.

"That isn't normal, that there are two of you and you studied the same thing," I was like. "Who is the leader, and who is the follower?"

And, I believe that I also mentioned something about how one of them must have a problem with insufficient individuation.

And, his girlfriend seemed amused by the question, but he just kind of looked at me all sadly and was like, "It has worked for many years, why question now," also mentioning something about it being "too late," like any sort of hope for a different fate had vanished long ago.
