A recent-ish day...

...at the one (Thai) restaurant where I work now:

1) Towards the end of the meal of this one (older) (lower-class) (white) couple, the (scrawny) (bearded) (baseball-capped) man says that the shrimp in his stir-fry have no flavor, and that presents a conundrum since he had already eaten most of his meal including 2 of the 4 shrimp and the bosses' policy is that you fix it or replace it if they flag the problem early on, but not if they ate it. So, although I was apologetic when he first told me that, I didn't exactly offer to do anything because the situation was just too ambiguous, but on second thought, I decided to let him know the policy, and so the next time that I was at the table, I told him it, and I said that if there's ever a problem like that in the future, please let us know right away, which he seemed mildly appreciative of, but he also seemed still kind of pissed, overall.

(That very day right when it happened I talked to my one [older] [Thai] coworker who's a whiz at the phones, and she wasn't sure what to do, because our shrimp is fresh and the guy had eaten a lot...  The next day, though, I talked to my one [chubby] [Thai] coworker, and I also mentioned that I had seen a few uneaten shrimp on a plate the previous week, and she said maybe it's because it's fresh and then we freeze it but we don't let it thaw enough before cooking, but then she goes and talks to the owners, and it turns out that part of the refrigeration in a cooler was going bad and it had affected the shrimp, but it was okay because by then, they had already discovered it for some other reason, though they hadn't the previous day back when that guy was having his meal.)

2) After that lunch shift, I'm walking home on a beautiful afternoon in the sunshine and amidst all the late spring greenery and I'm on the phone with my parents, and then what do I see, but riding fast up the street right straight towards me in the bike lane on a rentable electric scooter is my one (chubby) (Thai) coworker, in sunglasses and her new hairdo blowing in the wind.

("Sounds like a movie," my mother said when I told her what I had just seen, after I broke off our conversation and waved and said hi to my coworker while she was going by.)
